Uploaded: 10th February 2026 | Topic: Thinking about impact, monitoring and evaluation

This framework aims to help you to capture the impact of involvement. It has been designed by Shared Learning Group on Involvement members for Shared Learning Group members. It was originally designed in 2017 and then reviewed and updated in 2025/26. The framework has three sections, to help you to capture three different areas of impact:
● Impact on the People – any changes/impacts for people who are directly involved in the project i.e. people with lived experience (PWLE), carers, staff.
● Impact on the Work – any changes/impacts on the project/activity itself.
● Impact of the Work – any intended or unintended changes/impacts on systems, communities, and/or long-term changes.
Thanks to Lydia Morgan for leading the work on this, and to other working group members - Hope Laidley, Nicola Lucey, Anna O'Driscoll, Anita Bhardwaj, Rachael Darling, Liam Rooney and Graham Reeves.

Ripple effect mapping is a technique that is designed to capture the ‘ripples’ of impact that are hard to measure by traditional methods or that don’t happen immediately. It’s participatory and interactive, adaptable to unique contexts and, best of all, it’s really easy to do! As shared by Vision for Volunteering. Here are the training slides. There's also a 20 minute training video - link is here: https://www.visionforvolunteering.org.uk/event-recordings/v/ripple-effect-mapping-webinar
